Planning
We task satellites to map your land and create a reforestation plan tailored to your site and goals. Then we conduct site preparation and cultivate the seedlings at our nurseries.
Sheep Creek Ranch in southwestern MT burned in the Harris Mountain Fire of 2021. This video shows the project and the progress we’ve made towards restoring this 2,700 acre project. We completed site prep in the fall of 2022 and started planting spring of 2023. We’re going to plant more than 1,000,000 seedlings on this property over the next two planting seasons.
We task satellites to map your land and create a reforestation plan tailored to your site and goals. Then we conduct site preparation and cultivate the seedlings at our nurseries.
In our first conversations, we review our project process and eligibility requirements, and align on next steps.
We provide you with a Landowner Solutions Overview, including an outline of the project, and projected financials. If we are aligned, we sign a non-binding Letter of Intent to move forward with the project
We task satellites to map your burned acreage and begin to prepare a thorough Landowner Evaluation Report (LER). The LER contains detailed overview of burned acreage, historical tree cover analysis and planting prescription for the new forest to maximize fire resiliency. The LER also includes an estimated financial breakdown and landowner return potential.
If you decide to move forward with the project, we will prepare the Project Development Agreement, which is a legally-binding agreement between you and Mast.
We sow seed from our extensive seed bank at our two nurseries and grow seedlings tailored to your project. We also provide seed-collection services to find seed adapted to your area if we do not already have it in our seed bank.
As soon as weather conditions allow, we begin site preparation on your burned acreage and prepare for planting.
We plant the seedlings on your site and monitor their establishment and growth rates.
Seedlings are monitored for survival and growth after planting. One year post-planting, the project is confirmed by the carbon registry, and carbon removal credits are issued.
Once the carbon credits are issued, you receive a cash return on your project. Your seedlings are monitored every 3-5 years to ensure reforestation success.
